Artist's Comments

This is a spaceship I designed and modelled for the ~unitedmodellers modelling competition. I spent a acouple hours a day for about 3 days working on this. It was meant to be an exercise in modelling so I didn't focus much on the textures and am therefore not satisfied with the glass texture. But hey, I like the model. The design itself isn't really anything out of the ordinary, I just kinda made it up as I went. So I did the whole thing with polymodeling and meshsmooth. If you don't know what those are, you should learn. The main body has 3 iterations of meshsmooth total, but I worked on each a bit. I started with a box that is now the bulgey bit at the back of the main part (with the rectangular engine in it). Then I selected a top face and a side face and extruded, then beveled in. I extruded those two out again for a bit of a longer distance this time. So then I selected just the vertical face. I extruded and beveled it about 3 times, and rotated the final face to get the angle you see on the cockpit. Then I extruded a TINY amount and beveled a bit to get the edge around the cockpit. I Then extruded in twice to make te actual cockpit hole. Then I selected that little rim around the edge of the cockpit again and extruded it slightly so that meshsmooth wouldn't totally demolish the shape. At this point I added 1 iteration of meshsmooth and collapsed to an editable mesh. I just moved some points around to refine the shape more. I added another iteration and the cut the holes for all the intakes and such. I added 1 more meshsmooth and then left it pretty much as is. And that's about it for the body. If you have any specific questions or questions about the side engines, note me.

Stats:
about 150,000 faces
rendered with Brazil
paint texture is light blue with an environment map

Some in-progress shots can be seen in my gallery.

sweet dude. The glass looks really "clear" tho, its looks good, but it would be good with some shine too.

Keep it up man, its going good.

Looks good. Would be alot better if the glass had some refraction.
